Colleagues from LCH.LEGAL, together with IP CLUB, with the participation of KAMA FLOW, the law firm Rustam Kurmaev & Partners, and the WE IT Association, presented a study "Intellectual Property Management in Russia: Key Trends and Findings".

Main facts:

- Only 30% of companies have a formalized IP management strategy, while 17% have never even considered it. For most, work with IP remains reactive.

- 81% of respondents register rights to protect products and technologies; 57% believe that patents increase the company’s value in the eyes of investors; 52% associate IP with deal preparation.

- In Russia, intangible assets make up only about 4% of companies’ balance sheet value, while in the US and Europe it is over 70%. This indicates significant growth potential.

- More than 40% of companies report encountering IP-related incidents – from court disputes to technology leaks.

- Lack of qualified personnel and expertise remains a systemic problem: dedicated IP managers are rare, with responsibilities often divided between lawyers and product managers.

Sergey Gaivoronsky, Investment Director at KAMA FLOW: "I remember twice refusing deals specifically because of IP risks. We told them directly: guys, until the intellectual property is properly confirmed and registered, we will not proceed".
