10 billion roubles into Russian startups: why and how?

KAMA FLOW partner Evgeny Borisov spoke about the launch of a new fund and investment strategy in Alexander Gorny's podcast.
What the conversation was about:
The RUB 10bn fund is one of the largest in the country and will potentially increase the size of the entire venture capital market. This scale gives us the opportunity to invest in large cheques where there is a shortage of capital today.
KAMA FLOW believes in projects:
- with innovative technology at their core;
- with the potential for multiple growth - 5 to 10 times;
- with a strong team of funders (preferably 2-3 partners);
- with global ambitions and a strong local base.
Why is the market small? There are hundreds of quality projects, but not enough professional capital. Most funders still do not realise that it is possible and necessary to work with venture money in Russia. The new fund should change the situation.
The aim is to normalise the market. The more investment there is, the more competition for startups, the healthier valuations become, and the better the chances for normal IPOs in the coming years.
Where to look for exits? Through strategists, including foreign ones. Through IPOs. Through the growth of liquidity in the market. Through the scale effect: a dozen of successful exits is quite realistic even in the current environment.
